From the Manager's Desk...

Congratulations to the winner of the Mother's Day Gift Basket, out of 70 entries there was one lucky winner.  So, with Mother's Day behind us (we hope all our Mother's had a wonderful day) it is now Dad's turn!  Drop in this month to enter to win the Father's Day Gift package.

History of Father's Day:
The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day.  In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day.

Father's Day Humor:
In the frozen foods department of our local grocery store, I noticed a man shopping with his son. As I walked by, he checked something off his list, and I heard him whisper conspiratorially to the child, "You know, if we really mess this up, we'll never have to do it again."

A Father's Day Poem:
..In My Eyes...

He's rough and lacks in etiquette,
Society would say.
He has no classy attributes,
To help him on his way.

He's not a fancy dresser,
And he's not so trimmed and neat.
With simple clothes and simple shoes,
He wears upon his feet.

He doesn't belong to a club,
Or drive a shiny car.
And when he takes vacations,
He does not go very far.

He doesn't dine on fine cuisine,
To him fast food's a treat.
And he may use a plastic fork,
When it is time to eat.

He has a modest little house,
But has all that he needs.
He keeps his lawn cut nice and short,
He even trims his weeds.

He works long hours at his job,
To make an average pay.
And even if he's sick or tired,
He goes to work each day.

His job is just a factory job,
His pay just makes ends meet.
But, a few good friends and family,
Make his life complete.

He's not well versed in poetry,
Theater or the arts.
And wisdom is not something,
That he constantly imparts.

He loves the simple things in life,
For riches doesn't thirst.
He knows what is important,
And his family is put first.

He never has much money,
And his life is not a show.
But he is still the richest man,
That I will ever know.

To others he's a simple man,
And fame he's never had.
But he's the greatest man I know,
He also is my Dad.

Energy Saving Air Conditioning Tips
  • Do not set the thermostat lower than the desired temperature when you first turn it on. It will not cool faster; it mill only cool to a lower temperature than necessary and waste energy.
  • Make sure furniture does not obstruct air conditioning vents.
  • Do not position heat-producing appliances, such as televisions or lamps, near the thermostat.
  • A dusty filter reduces air flow. Examine your unit's air filters once a month and clean or replace filters when necessary. Keeping your filters clean can cut energy consumption 5 to 15%.

Water Safety Tips
It's that time of year again-the time to enjoy your local pool, lake or ocean.  Take note of the following water safety tips before you take your first dip to ensure a safe time for everyone!

  • Learn to swim
  • Swim near a lifeguard
  • Never swim alone
  • Supervise children closely, even when lifeguards are present
  • Don't rely on floatation devices, such as rafts, you may lose them in the water
  • If caught in a rip current, swim sideways until free, don't swim against the current's pull
  • Alcohol and swimming don't mix
  • Protect your head, neck, and spine -- don't dive into unfamiliar waters -- feet first, first time
  • If you are in trouble, call or wave for help
  • Follow regulations and lifeguard directions
  • Swim parallel to shore if you wish to swim long distances
  • Scuba dive only if trained and certified -- and within the limits of your training
  • No glass containers at the beach -- broken glass and bare feet don't mix
  • No beach fires except in designated areas -- fire residue and superheated sand can severely burn bare feet -- use a barbeque that is elevated off the sand
  • Report hazardous conditions to lifeguards or other beach management personnel
  • Stay clear of coastal bluffs, they can collapse and cause injury
  • Never turn your back to the ocean -- you may be swept off coastal bluffs or tide pool areas and into the water by waves that can come without warning
