Dear Residents:
Fall has almost arrived! By now school is back in full swing and football season is under way. This is one of my favorite times of year! We will be having our annual cookout in the picnic area on Friday September 16, 2011. Please join us from 5:15-7:00 p.m. for hot dogs, chips, baked beans and more much! We will be giving away prizes, gift cards, and having many other fun activities. We can't wait to see you there!!

Ingredients
• 2 lemons, halved, plus wedges for serving
• 1/2 cup Old Bay Seasoning
• 8 cloves garlic, smashed
• 1 large red onion, quartered
• 6 sprigs fresh thyme
• 1 pound baby red potatoes
• 4 ears corn, husked and snapped in half
• 1 1/4 pounds large shrimp, unpeeled
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
• Hot sauce, for serving (optional)
Directions
Fill a large pot with 4 quarts of water. Squeeze the lemon juice into the water and add the squeezed lemon halves. Add the Old Bay, garlic and onion. Tie the thyme sprigs together with kitchen twine and add to the pot. Cover and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook about 5 minutes.
Add the potatoes to the pot and cook until just tender, about 10 minutes. Add the corn and cook 5 more minutes.
Meanwhile, slice along the back of each shrimp through the shells; remove the veins and rinse the shrimp. Add to the pot, cover and cook until the shrimp curl and are just opaque, 2 to 3 minutes.
Transfer the shrimp and vegetables with a slotted spoon or skimmer to a large bowl. Add the butter and about 1 cup broth to the bowl and toss until the butter is melted. Transfer the shrimp and vegetables to a platter. Serve with the remaining broth, lemon wedges and hot sauce, if desired.
Problem: Clogged Bathtub Drain
Possible Solution:
There may be a hair clog trapped in the strainer of the drain and restricting water flow. To fix, remove the handle part of tub stopper, which unscrews. This does not remove the tub stopper. After removing the handle, a pair of pliers or screwdriver may be used to unscrew the tub stopper, which gives access to the tub strainer, which makes an “X” in the tub drain. Remove hair or foreign object from drain.
Peach Cobbler
Ingredients
4 cups peeled, sliced peaches
2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup water
8 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Ground cinnamon, optional
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt.
Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with ground cinnamon, if using. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
5 Garden Accessories for your Apartment

It’s all about getting the right plant stands and garden tools in place to make for a thriving garden environment.
1. Gardening Tools and Supplies
Keep some essential gardening items in your apartment. A set of small gardening tools will help you maintain your plants and keep them flourishing. Start by setting up a gardening tool kit. To save on space, use an outdoor storage bin or even a wooden trunk as your toolbox. Here’s what to include in the garden kit: Gardening gloves, Small- and medium-sized shovels, Plant food, pellets, Clippers/plant sheers, Small bag of extra potting soil, Additional containers and plant liners.
2. Select a Few Planters
First, select a few large planters to house your mid- to large-sized floor plants. A great way to frame a room and offer a sense of depth is to position a large plant such as a palm in a corner spot. Just be sure there is adequate lighting for the plant. Plants that do well with diffused lighting are ideal for apartments.
Secondly, window box planters provide a beautiful and healthy environment for your plants to grow in as well. Select one with a liner to provide your plants with adequate soil and water retention. They come in many different styles such as wood, wrought iron and steel, and are easy to install under a window or from an iron railing as well.

3. Hanging Planters
When you have limited space, rely on hanging baskets to display your favorite plants. It’s a great way to maximize space and help add a splash of greenery to a room. At the garden center you will be able to select from an array of plant holders in macramé, fabric, beaded and wood. Make sure you also purchase ceiling hooks and hanging plant brackets.
4. Plant Stands
Along with hanging your plants, place some on stands to help add a bit of diversity to your apartment. Plant Stands are available in a wide variety of configurations from wood to metal. You may also consider an interesting shape such as an oval multi-tiered stand for a different way to display plants that are on the smaller side.
5. Watering Cans
Get a few watering systems to provide adequate hydration for your plants. Select two styles of watering cans and a misting bottle to keep on hand. The larger watering can should have a wide spout for accommodating your floor plants. The smaller watering container should have a thin spout for hydrating the more petite plants in your apartment. Some plants such as African Violets have fuzzy leaves that should not get wet or they brown. You’ll need a thin-spouted can to target the soil without harming the leaves of such plants.
